IRS Direct Deposit

May 26, 2026

Executive Order 14247, mandates that all federal government agencies transition to electronic payments for all forms of federal disbursements. This includes tax refunds, except under certain circumstances.

Taxpayers who elected paper checks for refunds for their 2025 tax year may be experiencing delays in their refunds. Some may receive, or have already received, IRS Notice CP53E requesting bank information to facilitate the direct deposit of their refunds as the IRS attempts to push taxpayers to the new electronic payments mandate.

Status of refunds can be checked online by vising the IRS “Where’s My Refund” website.

It is important that taxpayers comply with the notice and login/create an account to enter their bank information within 30 days so that they can ensure receipt of their federal tax refund. While exemptions to direct deposit are available, direct deposit is typically faster, safer, and the preferred method of payment.  We also recommend updating/adding your bank information for the State Tax Agency as well.
